Mattia Binotto heads Audi’s F1 campaign – Seidl Out

Ex-Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has been named as the new leader in a shake up of Audi’s Formula One campaign, which is set to hit the track in 2026. This comes with the departure of two significant figures within the organisation of Andreas Seidl and Oliver Hoffman.

Before Binotto’s departure from Ferrari in 2022, he had been a part of the scarlet team since 1995, working his way up to head of engine and chassis until being appointed team principal for the 2019 season. As a team principal he scored 22 poles and seven wins, however no championships.

Mattia Binotto will later be Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer in the leadership team of Sauber.

After his time in F1, The 54-year-old was briefly managing director at Italian Automotive Technology company TEXA.

Andreas Seidl already shocked the paddock when he announced he was leaving his role as McLaren Team Principal at the end of 2022 to join the Audi-Sauber project.

Seidl was key in signing Nico Hülkenberg to join Audi’s campaign. Hülkenberg is set to join Sauber from Haas in 2025, with the Audi project kicking off a year later.

Oliver Hoffman stepped down from his role at Audi as Chief Development Officer in March of 2024 to become Chief Representative of Audi-Sauber’s F1 programme.
