Luke Browning took his maiden F2 Pole at the 2025 Italian GP, a crucial stepping stone in his Championship charge.

Browning Takes Pole

A long-time coming for the British driver, Luke Browning secured his first Pole position of the year at the 2025 Italian GP.

“It’s nice to finally be on Pole,” admitted Browning. “We’re quite lucky to race here in Formula 3 and Formula 2 so […] when we’re getting into qualifying […] we know roughly where the limit is.”

Characterised by three red flags, with the final incident cutting the session short, it was a chaotic qualifying session. Most notably, it saw the underperformance of several Championship contenders.

Therefore, with this weekend proving as a golden opportunity, the Hitech TGR driver will be hoping to capitalise from the misfortune of his closest competitors.

“Let’s see, come Saturday and Sunday, because it’s all about the races here and anything can happen,” said Browning, who is currently fourth in the overall Standings with 126 points.

“Last year, the race was won from last so anything can happen.”

His Season So Far

Stepping up into the FIA Formula 2 Championship full-time at the beginning of the season, Browning has showcased a highly consistent performance.

Scoring a podium finish during the first round in Australia, this set the tone, with seven to follow.

Furthermore, his first Pole was highly anticipated after several frustrating near misses.

“In Jeddah, I was on pole with like two minutes to go but it got resumed […] and I got done by Jak [Crawford] at the time […] and I was absolutely gutted because then following weeks, my teammate got on pole within seven minutes, and it got cancelled,” recalled Browning.

“Here, it was like 12 minutes to go and then we went out back again and we had another red flag [and the session was not resumed] so it’s like come back in a circle.”

Although the British driver is still chasing his first win in the series, consistency is main contributing factor to a successful Championship charge.

As well as the Drivers’ Championship, the Teams’ Championship is also at the forefront, with Hitech TGR currently third with 187 points.

“I think it’s fair to say I’m a Hitech boy. I’ve been with Hitech since Formula 4 […] I’ve been through the whole ladder. There’s nothing more I want to win than both the Teams’ and the Drivers’ [Championships],” explained Browning.

“I’m very grateful to the man in charge. He’s absolutely changed my life and I want to repay him with a title.”

A Period Of Reflection

Monza marks the end of the summer European run of races this season.

Therefore, it is a period of reflection for the drivers as they review their performance at the beginning of this stint compared to where they are now, whilst highlighting any major turning points.

“Naturally, you’re going to have good races [and] bad races, you’re going to have times where you feel really cohesive with the team and the car is coming together. Sometimes, it’s really difficult […] you think you’ve done a good lap and it’s not enough

“That’s the nature of the championship and everyone that is in Formula 2 often takes massive learning curves throughout it. The amount I’ve learnt since F3 in 2023 to now has been huge and the learning process of how to extract time out of this car and how different that is to an F1 car […] is important.”

At the end of April 2023, Browning was announced as a member of the Williams Driver Academy.

Alongside his Formula 2 duties this season, he has also had the opportunity to showcase his talent at the highest level.

Most recently, Browning drove for the British team in FP1 at the 2025 Bahrain GP. He finished 13th in the timesheets, placing the highest of the six rookies that participated.

“You learn from other people on the grid. There are things that you see other drivers do really well and you try and emulate it,” continued the British driver.

“I think there’s been a few turning points. Luckily, we’re coming into some good form so I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”
