The stage is set for what promises to be another fascinating race at the Red Bull Ring.
Mercedes has looked like the team to beat all weekend. Kimi Antonelli topped both Friday practice sessions before George Russell responded on Saturday. George found the pace and went fastest in FP3, taking pole position in the afternoon.
Russell secured pole in a dramatic qualifying session, setting his benchmark moments after Max Verstappen crashed at Turn 9. Despite lifting for the single yellow flag, the Mercedes driver still found enough time to claim P1. His lap was briefly investigated after the session before the stewards confirmed it would stand.
Ferrari continues to look like Mercedes’ closest challenger. Q3 saw another strong qualifying performance, with Leclerc and Hamilton starting second and third on the grid.
Antonelli will start fourth after aborting his final Q3 lap when he mistakenly believed double yellow flags had been shown following Verstappen’s crash, while the Red Bull driver lines up fifth after failing to complete his final run.
With Mercedes chasing another victory, Ferrari looking to turn their improved pace into a race win, and both Antonelli and Verstappen aiming to fight through the field, we are in for another thrilling Austrian Grand Prix.
