Formula 2 is set to race in Miami this weekend, after officials cancelled what was set to be Rounds Two and Three in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of the weekend, Everything Trackside, along with other publications spoke to Invicta Racing’s Joshua Dürksen about his preparation, season so far and more.
On Racing at a New Track
“I always like new tracks so […] I see it as a benefit as well, because I feel like I add up very quickly to every new track. Looking back, this is my third year in F2,” said the Paraguayan, believing that the addition of the new track will play a part in levelling the field.
“I would have a bit of an advantage going into traditional tracks but to be honest, I’m not worried, because I know I add up very quickly. So, for sure, I’m also looking forward to it.”
A Stellar Season Start
When questioned about his confidence levels, especially after his Sprint Race win in Melbourne, Dürksen believes he can continue progressing forward this season:
“Winning the first race, you know, scoring already good points and it just showed their [Invicta Racing’s] speed […] and I know that we have speed with Invicta so I’m really, really feeling confident. We had a good start and for sure, we’re aiming to keep going like this and […] fight for a Championship.”
The Uniqueness of Miami as a Track
The Mercedes Junior was also asked about his sim preparation for Miami, compared to other tracks:
“I think Miami is a track which has some similarities to other tracks. I feel like it’s an interesting combination of, let’s say, Melbourne, Baku and maybe a bit of Jeddah Sector One. The first Sector here in Miami is just pretty much high speed corners, fast flowing and then Sector Two and Three are very tight corners, slow speeds. Also, the track is a bit more narrow there so it just gives me a bit of […] Baku as well. I think I can mix up those experiences from those tracks to make it in this track.”
The 2026 Field
“I think we have a very strong line-up. Rafa [Camara] was basically unbeatable in F3, he was super quick. He adapted very quickly as well to F2. Of course, the guys from Invicta have now won twice in a row the Championship. For sure, they have a very strong car, a very strong team altogether and actually, combining all of that also with my experience, I think we make a very strong team,” said the Paraguayan.
“There’s no doubt for me that, for sure, we will have very good chances to win the Championship again this year”
Preparation for F2’s Miami Debut
When asked about his preparation, in respect to information and data collection by Everything Trackside, Dürksen spoke about how he has layed out the foundations for the upcoming weekend:
“Of course, I don’t have the experience on these tracks, but that doesn’t stop me from preparing well. We have very good simulators, we have very good track models. With my experience in an F2 car, we can correlate, very quickly, the sim model with the car mode,” explained Dürksen
“So I think we can get already pretty accurate data of these tracks so I don’t feel it’s a setback. It’s different tracks, but I feel we will be as prepared as we should be for the normal tracks.”
Dürksen’s Paraguayan Roots
Notably Miami is Invicta Racing’s home race. Along with that, Miami has a very strong South American presence, acting as the closest to Dürksen’s home race.
“Since I arrived in Miami, I just feel back at home, […] a lot of Spanish-speaking people, just very nice weather as well. I really like Miami. It’s the closest of what I could call my home Grand Prix.” said the Paraguayan.
“It’s the home Grand Prix of Invicta so that makes it even more like my home race. I really feel the support, I’ve met already with some people from Paraguay, and from whole South America, to be honest. It just feels like home.”
