Reigning BTCC champion Jake Hill announced that he will be leaving Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport at the end of the 2025 season. Hill has said that he is leaving the championship to focus on his international racing career.
The announcement ends a long term relationship between Hill and ex formula 1 driver Mark Blundell whom he was teammates with during the 2019 season. Blundell became a team owner in 2020 and Hill has been with the team ever since, adding the help of West Surrey Racing in 2023.
A quote from Hill:
“I have the chance to race in international motorsport and thats something I’ve always wanted to do. My dreams of doing the big races abroad have never left me and as much as I love the British Touring Car Championship, I feel that now is the right time to go and explore those.”
Since joining the championship full time in 2016, Hill has racked up an impressive 23 victories and 65 podium finishes. Hill took eight victories in his 2024 triumph over Tom Ingram and he decides to end his BTCC journey where he completed his greatest achievement to date. Brands Hatch is also a home venue for Hill so expect to see plenty of Laser Tools blue lining the banks at Brands in just over a week’s time.

The 2024 champion departs from the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport stable after not having the title defence he may have dreamed of. The BMW has been struggling for the outright pace of the Ford and Hyundai this year. Hill has had some success this year, taking six podiums and three wins so far this season. Two of which came at Knockhill on his return to the championship after missing round six at Croft through Illness. His other win in 2025 came at Brands Hatch on the indy loop where BMW’s won all three races. If the BMW’s can pick up where they left off in May, could there be a fitting final 24th win for the car that normally runs number 24?Â
