Jaguar TCS Racing has committed to the next generation of Formula E racing in another positive step for the all-electric series.
The sport will enter a new era with the GEN4 cars promoting significant breakthroughs in efficiency, performance and safety standards.
Bosses will hope this further improves the quality of racing in FE that we have seen in recent years.
Jaguar becomes the the second manufacturer to confirm its participation. Nissan’s agreement was confirmed their future during the inaugural Tokyo E-Prix.
Additionally, it cements their place as a stalwart on the FE grid after joining the series in Season three (2016/2017).
Reflecting on the announcement FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said:
“The birth of formula E was not easy. It was nearly impossible to bring this type of championship.“
“Then came the growth and now with the sustainability which I believe sustaining the business, not the environment.“
“So I would say well done to the everyone that was behind it,”
Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal said the competition “aligns perfectly” with the values of the company and that he is “extremely proud” of the team.
“This is great news for Jaguar TCS Racing and for Jaguar. As a team we recently celebrated our 100th race in Formula E and, with Jaguar being reimagined as a pure-electric brand from 2025, the timing couldn’t be better.” he said.
What will the GEN4 cars be like?
Formula E’s GEN4 cars will arrive from 2026-27 with Bridgestone replacing Hankook as the series tyre supplier.
Marelli will be the front powertrain supplier for the car’s four-year lifespan, taking over from Lucid Motors.
Meanwhile Podium Advanced Technologies replaces WAE as the battery partner. Spark Racing Technology remains the chassis constructor.
The GEN3 Evo, which is introduced next season will, according to Formula E, be able to accelerate from 0-60mph in 1.82s and will have 5-10% more grip.
You can expect the GEN4 cars to ramp this up even further as the sport continues to push the technological boundaries.
A threat to Formula One?
With more manufacturers opting for the racing series that is seen as the future of motorsport, questions remain about Formula One’s place in the pecking order.
Even with its push for sustainable fuels to be implemented, it is still a hard sell to say that it is an eco-conscious sport.
Meanwhile, Formula E continues to build on its cars, global engagement and calendar.
Currently, there is no threat to Formula One, as the two series co-exist. However the noise may grow louder as our climate targets come closer into view.
But for now, lets celebrate the achievements of Formula E in motorsport.
I had my own reservations in its inception but I’m pleased to say it has proved me wrong.
I guess there is a future for motorsport after all.
