7-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton joined the Denver Broncos ownership group today. Hamilton joins the group led by Wal-Mart billion Rob Walton’s group who are in the final stages of completing their purchase of the Denver, Colorado based team. Hamilton owns property in Aspen, Colorado so joining the group made sense as Hamilton does have some ties to the area. Hamilton was congratulated by new Broncos quarterback and friend Russell Wilson when it was announced Hamilton would join the ownership group.

Hamilton stated “excited to join an incredible group of owners and become part of the Broncos story! Honoured to work with a world class team and serve as an example of the value of a more diverse leadership across all sports.” In a league that has had its diversity issues, Hamilton should be a welcome addition into the fold for the NFL and Broncos. After announcing the move, new owner Walton said “we’re delighted to welcome seven-time Formula One world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group. He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team and a fierce advocate for global equality, including in his own sport. With over 100 race wins, Lewis is considered the most successful F1 driver of all time. His resilient spirit and standard of excellence will be seen as an asset to the ownership group and the Broncos organization.”

It seems Hamilton should and when he calls it a career will have plenty to do as part of this new ownership group, hopefully helping to bring more diverse people into these kinds of roles in the NFL, and it seems his dog Roscoe is already part of the team.
