Guenther Steiner has taken legal action against Haas F1 Team, his former employers, alleging breach of contract and unauthorised use of his likeness.
It’s been announced that Guenther Steiner has taken legal action against Haas F1 Team for allegedly breaching the terms of his contract and exploiting his image and reputation.
Filed in Mecklenburg, North Carolina, the lawsuit accuses Haas of failing to honour contractual obligations regarding payments and exploiting Steiner’s image and reputation without consent.
In the legal documents, Steiner claims that Haas has not fulfilled its obligation to pay him commissions as stated in his employment contract. The commissions in question are for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Steiner also claims that the outfit, which did not renew his contract after it expired last year, continues to sell merchandise that features his name and image, as well as use him on their official website.
He claims that Haas F1 Team do not have authorisation to do this. Additionally, Steiner has claimed that he is not being paid royalties that he says he is due.
The court papers state:
“Haas F1 chose not to renew Mr. Steiner’s Employment Agreement. This was its right. But Haas F1 has done what it has no right to do and refused to pay Mr. Steiner [amount redacted] owed under his Employment Agreement.
“But after years of accepting the benefits of Mr. Steiner’s reputation, experience, and deep connections within the sport, Haas F1 cannot withhold from Mr. Steiner the benefits he has earned.”
