What was the penalty? Franco Colapinto Penalised

During the ending stages of the Mexican Grand Prix, there was an incident between Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto. The incident occurred in Turn 1 and Turn 2, when Colapinto tried an overtaking move on the Kiwi driver.

Lawson defended aggressively while staying on track, leaving just enough room for Colapinto to stay on the circuit from Turn 1 to Turn 2, although the Argentine ultimately left the track.

Both drivers entered Turn 2 on compromised lines, with Colapinto positioned at a greater disadvantage. Lawson allowed the Williams driver space at the Turn 2 apex; however, Colapinto maintained speed, which caused him to go wide on the exit, leading to contact with the VCARB’s front wing..

The incident was under investigation after the race ended and the stewards found Colapinto in violation of Article 2(d) of the FIA International Sporting Code. With Colapinto being deemed as the sole reason for the collision.

The FIA following suit of their penalty to Max Verstappen, awarded the rookie driver with a 10-second penalty and 2 penalty points on his super license. With the Penalty, Franco finished P12, outside the points. Marking another challenging weekend for the Williams team.
