Formula E’s Pre-Season Test, originally scheduled for November 4-7 in Valencia, relocates to the Circuit of Jarama in Madrid.
The change comes as Valencia faces severe flooding, with the DANA storm causing a devastating impact, making it one of the worst flooding events in decades in the region. Torrential rains have ravaged the Valencian Community, claiming at least 95 lives, and hundreds remain missing, according to the BBC.

Circuit Ricardo Tormo “Seriously Damaged”
The DANA storm extensively damaged the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, disrupting plans for FIA Formula E’s pre-season tests. A circuit representative reported, ‘The storm seriously damaged a significant portion of the access and parking infrastructure, which now requires urgent repair.’
However, after an initial inspection, officials reported that the track itself remains in “optimal” condition. Fortunately, the circuit reported no injuries, though around 100 individuals, including Formula E staff already onsite, spent the night there due to impassable conditions.

In light of the current situation, the pre-season test will now take place at the Circuit del Jarama in Madrid, from Tuesday, November 5 to Friday, November 8. This schedule will also include the first-ever Women’s Test, a significant addition to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar.
Formula E’s Pre-Season Test Official Statement
On a first official statement, Formula E acknowledged the situation and confirmed they “were working closely with the local authorities and representatives of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia ahead of the scheduled FIA Formula E official test next week.”
“Four members of Formula E staff stayed at the circuit last night as a precaution, but are safe and able to transfer to and from the circuit by foot. Track conditions show no signs of damage, and we continue to assess garages and freight. Alternative access routes in and out of the circuit are currently being investigated.”
The organization stayed vigilant, closely monitoring the evolving situation and preparing to support those affected in Valencia.
In a second statement, one day later, and following “consultation with local authorities, the FIA, and [our] colleagues at Circuit Ricardo Tormo,” they confirmed the decision not to proceed with the pre-season test in Valencia.
“While it may have been possible to go ahead logistically, it is important not to create any distraction or use valuable resources that are much better served supporting the local community.”
“We will support the community to recover from these tragic events in any way we can and ensure that while our testing continues in Madrid, it is done with the utmost sensitivity.”
Valencia’s Role and Formula E’s Connection to the Region
The flooding disaster comes just days after the conclusion of the FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, which managed to wrap up despite challenging weather conditions.
Valencia has hosted Formula E’s pre-season testing since 2017 and has recently become the base for Formula E operations, giving the city a special place in the hearts of the Formula E community.
The Circuit Ricardo Tormo currently serves as a relief center, aiding those affected by the flooding.
Impact on Other Events at Ricardo Tormo Circuit
The flooding also puts the final race of the 2024 MotoGP season, scheduled at Ricardo Tormo from November 15-17, at risk. MotoGP organizers have yet to confirm whether the event will proceed, but many riders, including Spanish racer Marc Márquez, have shared their concerns.
Márquez stated, “I would love to have a Grand Prix in Spain and even more so at one of my favorite circuits, but the situation is what it is, and the first priority is to help everyone.”
Formula E’s decision to relocate underscores the severity of the situation in Valencia, as the organization now focuses on ensuring the pre-season tests proceed smoothly in Madrid while keeping Valencia’s needs at the forefront of its priorities.
