The Formula 3 British GP weekend has already had it’s fair share of chaos so far – and it’s only Saturday.
Following a heavy downpour prior to the Sprint race this morning, the session has been postponed. The track was undriveable, with even the Safety Car sliding around the waterlogged Silverstone track. However, if or when the session resumes, a few drivers will be out of place from where they qualified yesterday.
Four Formula 3 drivers have been handed penalties following a chaotic Quali. Most notable is the grid penalty handed to Max Esterson to serve in his next race. If today’s Sprint goes ahead, he’ll drop from the front row in P2 to P5 with his three-place penalty. It comes after he was found by the Stewards to have impeded PREMA’s Dino Beganovic in the Quali session yesterday.
Trident’s Sami Meguetounif has also received a grid penalty for impeding Van Amersfoort Racing’s Sophia Floersch. The Frenchman will drop back three places for the next race he participates in. ART Grand Prix’s Nikola Tsolov and Campos Racing’s Mari Boya also suffered the same fate; Tsolov for impeding Piotr Wisnicki and Boya for also impeding Floersch. Both drivers have received three-place grid penalties to serve in their next race.
It’s not yet known when – or if – the Sprint race will be run today. Fans have been urged to check Formula 3 social media for updates.
