Formula 2 and Formula 3 Testing Confirmed For Barcelona

Hannah Adams Avatar

Barcelona has been announced as the pre-season testing venue for both the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships next month.

Crucially, this makes a change from the series’ usual testing venue in Bahrain. The Middle Eastern track hosted pre-season testing for Formula 2 from 2020-2024, and Formula 3 in 2020 and 2022-2024.

Testing will begin with Formula 3, taking place on February 19-21.

The traditional structure of a morning and afternoon session for each day is anticipated to remain the same.

Following this, Formula 2 testing will begin on February 24-26.

With two days separating the Formula 2 and Formula 3 test periods, teams will have to decide whether to keep personnel and equipment in proximity to the circuit. Alternatively, they may decide to travel back to their headquarters before returning to the track.

The Grids So Far…

So far, 18 out of 22 Formula 2 seats have been filled, with just four announcements left to be made.

These include one seat at ART Grand Prix, Rodin Motorsport, AIX Racing and Van Amersfoort Racing.

Similarly, 25 out of 30 Formula 3 seats have been filled, with five announcements remaining.

These include two seats at both Van Amersfoort Racing and AIX Racing, and one seat at DAMS Lucas Oil.

The 2025 Championships

Both the 2025 FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships return on March 14-16 in Melbourne, supporting the Formula 1 Championship at the first race of the season.

Formula 2 will take place over 14 rounds, with the season finale in Abu Dhabi on December 5-7, 2025. This also marks the last race weekend of the 2025 Formula 1 Championship.

Whereas, Formula 3 will take place over a slightly shorter 10 rounds, with the season finale in Monza on September 5-7, 2025.
