Since Scuderia Ferrari announced the renewal of Charles Leclerc’s contract and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, one question lingers in the Formula 1 paddock: where is Carlos Sainz going? The unexpected answer might be Williams.
As Italian journalist Roberto Chinchero reports in his latest article for motorsport.com, the driver’s management is carrying out the negotiation with the English team, as an alternative to Audi.
The latest rumors have confirmed that Sainz won’t be joining Mercedes or Red Bull, leaving hardly any options available. In the end, choosing Williams is not as crazy as it seems.
Why Should Carlos Sainz Join Williams?
First, probably the 2025 cars will be a development of this year’s single-seaters. In this scenario, a greater competitiveness of the Williams package is likely to happen.
Plus, thinking about 2026, most of the teams are looking for two-years contracts. This is true for Williams and Audi, but top teams, too. Which means that in two years’ time, some interesting seats might get vacant again.
After seeing where things will be going with the new regulations, Sainz will have the chance to make a more conscious move this time. And maybe get to join a top team again this time.

Anyway, he’ll decide shortly, but there is no rush in doing it.
“I will simply put all options on the table and make the right decision,” Sainz explained in a media meeting in Monaco.
“As soon as all aspects are clarified, it will materialize very quickly. I haven’t decided yet, and I don’t have fixed deadlines to meet. What I’m about to make is an important decision for my career, I’m going to turn 30 soon, and I’m going to give myself all the time I need to evaluate every detail of the choice I’m going to make.”
