Who are the Ben Sulayems?
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem is a former rally driver and was appointed the head of the FIA in December 2021. The FIA oversees many motorsport disciplines, including F1.
FIA President Ben Sulayem announced in February of this year that he would be taking a step back from direct involvement in Formula 1, due to a clash with F1 stakeholders over the future of the sport’s media rights and the possibility of welcoming new teams to the grid.
Saif Ben Sulayem had followed in his father’s motorsport footsteps, having competed in the UAE Formula 4 series in the 2016-17 season. During his time in UAE F4, Ben Sulayem competed against current Formula 1 rookies Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargent.
