Rao leas the role of Interim Secretary General after replacing Peter Bayer earlier in the year.
Rao’s appointment to the FIA, was seen as controversial within the F1 paddock. This was due to her previous role as Legal Director at Mercedes and Special Advisor to Toto Wolff.
Ferrari Team Principle, Mattia Binotto raised his concerns at the time of her appointment.
“It’s a concern, but only a concern. I think it’s down to them to make sure that there will be no conflicts of interest at all, to [do things] properly, and it’s down to the president to ensure it, and they will do it.“

Rao was involved with the Redbull Cost Cap breach, with the team concerned about FIA leaks regarding potential cost cap infringements. Both Christian Horner and Helmut Marko commenting on these concerns as far back as the Singapore GP.
