Rafael Camara has clinched the 2025 Formula 3 Championship in style at the F3 Feature Race 2025 Hungarian GP, picking up his fourth F3 Feature Race victory in the process.

After a safety car riddled race, Rafael Câmara was able to hold off his rivals in the F3 Feature Race at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ferrari Academy driver, led Aston Martin’s Junior Mari Boya and fellow Ferrari junior Tukka Taponen to the flag.

This Weekend So Far…

In F3 Qualifying at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, Câmara claimed his fifth Aramco Pole Position Award of the season. In the final runs of the session, the Trident driver delivered a 1:32.510. The Ferrari Academy driver was less than a hundredth clear of his championship rival Mari Boya in second. Tuukka Taponen finished third for ART Grand Prix after a late improvement of his own.

The Campos driver successfully defending from Prema’s Ugo Ugochukwu after a late one‑lap shootout. Charlie Wurz completed the podium in third, capping a dramatic sprint filled with incidents, safety cars, and late‑race tension.

Rolling Off The Start

After a drizzly morning, the F3 Feature Race at the Hungarian Grand Prix was forced to a rolling start. Câmara, who only needed a victory to claim his championship, pulled away early. Mari Boya and Tuukka Taponen kept it clean in second and third.

The yellow flag made a brief appearance when Callum Voisin and Bruno Del Pino made contact. Voisin picked up a 5 second penalty for the incident. Tim Tramnitz had a spin on the opening lap, dropping him down to 25th, ruling him out of Championship contention.

After falling behind with a 1.6 second gap, Boya was able to make his move up to the Ferrari Academy driver, closing it down to 0.6 by the end of Lap 2.

Safety Car Out

The safety car was brought out for a collision between Roman Billinksi and Brad Benavides. After a small touch, Benavides was sent into the wall. After spinning, Billinksi was able to recover quickly rejoining the race.

After three laps on track, the safety car returned to the pit lane on Lap 6. Showing his rolling start prowess, Câmara was able to control the lead as the tack went green once again.

However, the safety car was out once again less than a lap later.

Ugo Ugochukwu and Gerard Xie came together in Turn 4, sending both into the gravel. Xie gained a 10 second time penalty for causing the collision. By Lap 10, the Safety Car was able to return to the pit lane where it would stay for the rest of the race. Tramnitz’s day went from bad to worse as he and Zagazeta were noted for Safety Car infringements.

Countdown Clock On

The F3 Feature Race was proving to be important for the remainder of the championship positions. After a poor qualifying left Nikola Tsolov at the back of the field, he had to make improvements to fight for second in the championship. Tsolov showed his talent, passing James Wharton for P8 on Lap 13.

However, all eyes were on the front of the field. Trident’s Câmara was still leading the F3 Feature Race. Boya still hovering in his DRS as the call to move to a 13 minute countdown clock was made.

The clock ticked down incident free, and with only a minute left in the Feature Race, Câmara was able to extend his lead to 2.2 seconds. Câmara’s tyre management allowed him to dominate the final lap. Rafael Câmara crossed the chequered flag first in the F3 Feature race at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix. Câmara claimed both his fourth win of the 2025 season and his F3 Championship.

Boya and Taponen were able to hold onto their qualifying positions rounding out the podium. Tsolov was able to move up to 6th in the final minutes, keeping his second place battle with Boya alive for the final round.

While Câmara may have claimed the overall championship in the F3 feature Race, there is still plenty to fight for in the season finale. The Constructors Championship is still too close to call, with Trident leading Campos by 20 points. F3 will return after the summer break at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.
