Noel Leon secured his first Pole position in FIA Formula 2 for Campos Racing.
As the green light shone, the field made their way out onto the track.
With Austria being the series’ shortest circuit of the year, congestion and traffic will certainly play a role this weekend.
First Push Laps
Alex Dunne was the first driver to begin his push laps, with the Alpine Junior immediately topping the timesheets. Teammate Martinius Stenshorne slotted into second.
Sebastian Montoya replaced the Norwegian, setting three purple sectors, whilst Gabriele Mini set a time good enough for third.
The Campos Racing drivers were next to make a statement, Noel Leon and Nikola Tsolov falling into first and second respectively.
Meanwhile, Joshua Durksen slotted into third.
It was disappointment for Rafael Camara, who was met with traffic at Turns 6 and 7, drastically losing time and subsequently lifting.
Conversely, Mini was able to improve, moving into third once again.
Able to improve, Camara occupied Pole with a 1:16.052 for Invicta Racing.
Back on Track
With many of the drivers in the pits, Leon was the next driver to secure Pole once again, going comfortably quickest with a 1:15.544.
With 10 minutes remaining, the pressure was on as the remainder of the field began making their way back onto the track. Fresh Supersoft tyres has been fitted.
Oliver Goethe was the first to pull the plug on the next sequence of push laps. One and a tenth half downs on Leon, he slotted into second.
However, Mini, Tsolov and Dunne immediately replaced him.
Camara settled for fifth, with Rafael Villagomez moving into eight, whilst Stenshorne, Cian Shields and Durksen all briefly ran wide into the gravel.
Chequered Flag
Noel Leon secured his first Pole position in FIA Formula 2 for Campos Racing.
Alex Dunne will line up in second for Sunday’s Feature Race, with Nikola Tsolov taking third.
Formula 2 will resume tomorrow for the Sprint Race, taking place at 14:15 local time.
