As expected, whenever Formula 1 returns to the historical Spa-Francorchamps circuit, rainy weather promptly arrives on Grand Prix Sunday. Naturally then, this year’s Formula 2 drivers readied themselves for yet another rainy race.

Rolling Start
To ensure the drivers’ safety while racing in wet weather conditions, the drivers formed up under the Safety Car before the race began with a rolling start. Alex Dunne led the grid onto the start-finish straight after claiming pole position earlier this weekend.
Whilst the drivers behind him tussled for position in the tricky weather, Dunne was able to draw a 1.5-second gap to P2 by the end of the first lap. This gap only continued to grow as Dunne was able to extend the gap to 2.5 seconds a few laps later.

Italians Fight It Out
Behind the leaders, Gabriele Minì and Leonardo Fornaroli fought for position in positions 7 and 8. After a few laps behind Fornaroli, Mini got his PREMA car past his former F3 rival. Not far behind, the Hitechs of Luke Browning and Dino Beganvoic closed in on the pair. Browning slowly began to pick off positions from them, rising to P7 by lap 10.
Track Limits
With the slippery conditions increasing as the tyres struggled in the driving conditions, many of the drivers began to pick up track limit violations. Victor Martins was the first driver to receive a black and white flag for track limit violations. Mini and Oliver Goethe were a few who followed as the race led on.

Fresh Tyres On
From lap 12, the drivers began to peel into the pits to fit on newer wet-weather tyres. With the rain coming in harder once again, being on fresh tyres was top priority as the laps ticked down.
After the shift in positions after the pit stops, Goethe took the lead from Dunne. However, it didn’t take too long for Dunne to regain the lead as he pushed hard to get past the Red Bull Junior. Dunne immediately stretched the gap to 1.2 seconds as he got past Goethe. With the lead safely secured once again, the drivers behind him fought to claim the final podium positions.
Dampened Visibility
As the rain started to pour once again, there were many areas on track where standing water began to appear. The spray from the cars made it more difficult for the cars to stay on the track. With only six laps to go, Roman Stanek had an unfortunate spin into the gravel, allowing Arvid Lindblad to claim P2 from the Invicta driver.
Safety Car Out!
After an unfortunate spin at Eau Rouge, Sebastian Montoya’s car stalled and brought out the first safety car of the race.
Whilst still under the Safety Car, another driver unfortunately couldn’t complete the race. Goethe’s car was forced to stop in the middle of the Kemmel Straight as smoke blew from the back of the car. As he was unable to pull off to the side of the road, the Red Flag was brought out, ending the Feature Race in the pit lane.

Dunne Does it Again
After a tumultuous race, Alex Dunne ultimately persevered, claiming another victory in the 2025 season. The other podium positions were filled by Arvid Lindblad in P2 and Roman Stanek in P3.
