Norris completes a McLaren 1-2
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had started on pole, with Norris alongside him on the front row. The two clashed at Turn 1 in a feisty Lap 1 tussle, forcing Norris wide and costing him three positions. Verstappen held on to P2 briefly, but Norris would fight back, engaging in a thrilling back-and-forth battle with the Red Bull in the early laps before ultimately regaining and cementing second place behind the flying Piastri.
“Oscar got past him and I got past him […] He didn’t even put up a fight at the end, so it just depends how much he wants to fight you. It’s Max. He’s doing a good job […] You know, it’s still been a very good weekend for me. I’m happy with my progress. I felt more comfortable in the car once again.” – Lando Norris on the Lap 1 incident
Even during periods of tyre degradation, both McLarens remained consistently a second per lap faster than the rest of the field, underscoring their pace advantage. Piastri never looked under threat, executing a near-perfect race to finish comfortably ahead of Norris, with the pair 32 seconds clear of Russell in third.
“I was aware enough to avoid Max coming through in Turn 1. From that point onwards I knew that I had a good pace advantage and clearly the car was unbelievable today.” – Oscar Piastri

Russell claims a 4th podium in 2025
Russell’s podium capped a solid weekend for Mercedes, though teammate Kimi Antonelli, who started a brilliant P3, finished in sixth. The Silver Arrows appeared competitive early on but simply couldn’t keep pace with McLaren’s relentless rhythm.
“I’m really pleased with how the result ended up. Obviously, I’ve been really struggling this weekend, but I always try and remind myself, even after a good qualifying, it doesn’t mean anything. And after a bad qualifying, it also means nothing because the race is on Sunday. And I felt like I did a really strong race today.” – George Russell
With Round 6 of the season now complete, the paddock turns its attention to Europe. A high-pressure triple-header approaches with races at Imola, Monaco, and Barcelona. The question now: can anyone stop McLaren’s momentum?
