Piastri Keeps His Cool

A near-perfect weekend for Piastri saw the Australian driver keep his cool and bring home his second race win of the season.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a hell of a party,” joked Piastri. “I’m not going to get involved because I’ve got to race again next week.”

“To finish the race in style today was nice,” Piastri admitted, finishing 15.499s ahead of Russell as he confidently controlled the race.

Stating that he would have “preferred to not have the safety car”, Piastri explained that “the pace was still good” and he was “confident” he could get “a good restart.”

“It’s never been a track that’s been kind to us so it’s nice to finally have that first win for the team here,”concluded Piastri, the first driver this season to secure multiple wins.

Russell Pushes Through Challenges

“It was a really challenging race,” Russell admitted, with the British driver receiving a one-place grid penalty in Qualifying yesterday after a pit-lane infringement.

The British driver started in P3 yet was plagued with issues during the closing laps.

“We […] were having all sorts of failures and basically, we did an override on the DRS, and on one lap, I clicked the radio button and DRS opened. I lost more than I gained. It was only open for a split second. So, it goes to show the amount of issues we were having.”

Being summoned to the stewards following the race, Russell did not receive penalty after this DRS infringement.

“I expected Lando to come through, but he was not as competitive as I expected,” Russell reflected. “I think Oscar just had it totally under control.”

“We were really pleased with P2,” Russell concluded, stating that it was a “mega race” for Mercedes.

Norris’ Recovery Drive

An incredible start for Norris saw the British driver make up three positions on the start to P3.

However, a five-second penalty was quickly given for a false start, highlighting the start of “a messy race” for the Championship leader.

“I didn’t think I was that far forward I guess, nothing more than that,” Norris explained, with the driver serving his penalty during his first pit stop.

“I made my life way too tricky with the start with the penalty […], I did the best I could with what I had.”

A few positives” could be taken from the Brit’s race, with the driver praising “good racing throughout, so no complaints, good overtakes, on the limit as it should be so good fun.”

Although, Norris admitted that he is “not confident or comfortable” and “things are not clicking” as they once were.

“I’ll try and step it up for next weekend,” stated Norris, who is still leading the Championship just three points ahead of teammate Piastri.
