We are back for FP2 at the temple of speed for the weekend. With the Ferraris taking FP1 by storm, the Tifosi are wondering if Ferrari could back it up for FP2.
Mercedes were looking like the ones to beat at the start of the session, with Antonelli and Russell exchanging P1 and P2. On the long runs, Ferrari looked like they were struggling but were competing with the Mercedes on the soft tyre runs.
George Russell top the session with 1:22:559. Charles Leclerc was +0.120 behind him with Antonelli rounding out the top 3.
Racing Bulls
After being announced Rookie of the year, Arvid Lindblad went out and put in a stellar FP2. In the long runs, Lindblad put his RB in P3 just behind the Mercedes Duo on the medium tyre. He was 0.266 behind Russell, who was on the hard tyre. Tsunoda also put in a good lap on the softs, bringing P8 after the first soft tyre runs.
Mercedes
Kimi Antonelli will start at the back of the grid due to taking a new engine outside of his allowance. Antonelli’s first lap on the soft was impacted by traffic from an Audi. Antonelli put in a 1:27: which was later beaten by George Russell by 0.014. George continued to top the time sheets for the session, while Antonelli was behind in P3.
Ferrari
Ferrari took some time to start showing up at the top of the time sheets. On the soft runs, Charles Leclerc put in some times to challenge the Mercedes Duo. Towards the end of the run in FP2, Leclerc had a moment where he spun and saved the car from going into the gravel.
Haas
Ollie Bearman, who received the upgraded Ferrari engine, showed pace in Friday’s session. On the soft tyre runs he moved his Haas to P8 in front of Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda.
