McLaren’s Strong Start with Norris on Top

Lando Norris, who had already topped the timesheets in FP1, continued his impressive form into FP2. Posting a lap time of 1:26.549, Norris outpaced his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, who was over three-tenths slower. This McLaren 1-2 finish in practice sets a confident tone for their home Grand Prix, showing that the team means business.

Key Driver Changes for FP2

After a first practice session featuring junior drivers Franco Colapinto, Oliver Bearman, Jack Doohan, and Isack Hadjar, FP2 saw the return of the regular competitors. Kevin Magnussen, Sergio Perez, Logan Sargeant, and Pierre Gasly took the wheel, rejoining the fray and adding to the dynamic mix of the session.

Perez Leads Red Bull’s Charge

Sergio Perez led the Red Bull efforts, securing the third-fastest time in FP2, although he was nearly half a second adrift of Norris. Max Verstappen, his teammate, focused on different strategies and didn’t run the soft tyres, which saw him placed further back in seventh.

Midfield Battle: Haas, Ferrari, and Mercedes

Nico Hulkenberg showcased Haas’ potential by clocking the fourth-fastest time of the session, indicating that they could be strong contenders this weekend. Charles Leclerc put Ferrari in fifth place, while Lewis Hamilton managed sixth for Mercedes. These performances hint at a competitive midfield battle as teams fine-tune their setups.

Late-Session Rain Adds Drama

As the session progressed, light rain began to fall, leading most drivers to return to the pits. The change in weather conditions saw teams test their wet and intermediate tyres briefly, adding a layer of unpredictability to the session and providing crucial data for potential wet conditions during the race.

Looking Ahead

With Norris and McLaren setting the pace, attention now turns to whether they can maintain their advantage or if rivals will find the speed to challenge them. As FP2 concludes, teams will be analysing their data and preparing for the qualifying and race sessions ahead, where every tenth of a second will count.
