F1 Academy has announced a major rule change for 2025, with the series reintroducing reverse grids for the upcoming season. This adjustment is aimed at intensifying competition and providing greater opportunities for drivers throughout the field.
The race weekend format will remain the same as in 2024. Featuring two free practice sessions, one Qualifying session, and two races. Race 1 will follow the same format as F2 and F3, featuring a reverse grid format.
The starting grid for Race 1 will be determined by reversing the top eight drivers from the Qualifying classification. With the remaining drivers will line up in their original positions. Points will be awarded to the top eight finishers, and an additional point will be granted to the driver who sets the fastest lap within the top eight classified drivers.
The Race 2 format remains unchanged from 2024. The grid will follow the qualifying classifications, with points awarded to the top 10 finishers.
The driver securing pole position will receive two bonus points, while another point will be awarded for the fastest lap set within the top ten.

Delphine Biscaye, Competition Manager of F1 Academy, emphasized the positive impact of the reverse grid format:
“The return of the reverse grid in 2025 promises exciting racing with even more overtakes. The change will also challenge and develop our drivers’ race craft and prepare them to progress up the motorsport ladder, where reverse grids are a mainstay in the weekend format. Reverse grids are a fantastic chance for drivers who often qualify P5 – P8 to demonstrate their ability to race at the front, and a podium or race win can be just what it takes to unlock their full confidence and potential.”
With the implementation of reverse grids, F1 Academy aims to foster even closer racing. Ultimately providing more opportunities for drivers to showcase their skills.
