Doriane Pin won Race 2 of the 2025 F1 Academy Chinese Grand Prix weekend ahead of fellow returning drivers Maya Weug and Chloe Chambers.
Returning F1 Academy driver Maya Weug started on pole position ahead of Doriane Pin and the rookie Alba Larsen.
A Rolling Start
There was a delayed start to the race as a result of oil on the track from another support series. The formation laps took place behind the safety car. Because of the varying track conditions on the grid from the oil, there was a rolling start.
Maya Weug had Doriane Pin close behind on the rolling start. Pin sent it around the outside of Turn 1, overtaking Weug for the lead. PREMA Racing teammates Nina Gademan and Tina Hausmann made contact after Hausmann locked up on Lap 1, but they were able to continue the race.
Safety Car on Lap 1
Later in Lap 1, Aurelia Nobels, Joanne Ciconte, and Nicole Havrda had an incident. All three were left stricken on track, resulting in a safety car. Chloe Chong went into the back of Ciconte, causing her to spin and collect the others. Chong was the only driver involved to continue the race.
The safety car returned to the pits at the end of Lap 4. Doriane Pin maintained her lead on the safety car restart as there was movement further down the grid. Lia Block had made her way to 11th on the grid from the back end.
Tina Hausmann recieved a 10-second penalty for causing the incident with Gademan on Lap 1. Chloe Chong was also given a 10-second penalty for the incident she caused with Ciconte.
Maya Weug was putting pressure on Pin, and the young Larsen in third was holding onto the experienced drivers ahead. Chloe Chambers went for a late move on Larsen, narrowly avoiding contact.
Overtakes Across the Field
Lia Block continued to try and make moves as she put pressure on Courtney Crone in 10th. Nina Gademan was also making moves after her Lap 1 incident, improving to 12th. Block overtook Crone around the outside at Turn 1 for the final points-paying position. Gademan followed suit a few corners later.
Pin continued to control the pace up front as Weug dropped over a second behind. Chambers tried to go down the outside of Larsen, but she went wide, letting Larsen keep third place.
The Final Laps
Emma Felbermayr overtook Alisha Palmowski into the final turn, taking fifth place. Palmowski did make slight contact with Felbermayr, but her car remained intact. Chambers took third from Larsen into Turn 1 after battling with her for the majority of the race.
Ferreira tried to make moves on Chong, almost losing the place to Block. Chong’s penalty ultimately dropped her down the 11th.
