Abbi Pulling will start on Pole for both F1 ACADEMY races in Miami after a dominant display during the 2024 Miami qualifying.
Heading into qualifying for round 3 of F1 ACADEMY at Miami, Abbi Pulling, Doriane Pin and Maya Weug had the focus on them as the favourites for Pole.
Doriane had an incredibly dominant display at Jeddah topping every timesheet. Only losing out on the Race 2 win because of her taking the flag twice, which left her with a 20 second time penalty.
Abbi Pulling has shown she intends to fight at the front this season. Currently leading the championship, she wanted to start this weekend the way she did Jeddah. On top.
Similarly, Maya Weug, who has placed in the top 3 in every race this season, set out her intentions for the weekend. To get her first win in F1 ACADEMY.
In FP1, Doriane Pin finished in P1 while Pulling was close behind, feeling under the weather and struggling for balance within the car. Weug finished in fourth behind the Mclaren of Bianca Bustamante.
FP2 saw Pulling return to form topping the timing sheets, now Pin trailing close behind. Weug found herself down in seventh but was still confident she could find herself in contention for pole come qualifying.
The 2024 Miami qualifying was a constant show of back and forth fastest times between Weug, Pulling and Pin. However, Abbi Pulling consistently put herself on a provisional pole.
As the session began, she set the benchmark time of a 1.59.882.
Pulling’s final times were a 1:58.597 and a 1:58.714
Pin looked competitive in the first half of qualifying, going out on her own to get some clean track. However, the back end of qualifying only saw her capable of second place, 0.574 off Pulling’s pole lap.
Bianca Bustamante also managed to put in an impressive time, 0.408 seconds off Pulling’s second fastest time, which put her in second place for Race 2.
Weug missed out on Pole, struggling in the second half of qualifying. She lines up P5 for Race 1 and P6 for Race 2.
Focus was also on Lia Block, Miami being her home GP however, after struggling with brake balance and suffering multiple lock ups, she start P12 for both races.
