Speaking at the press conference on Thursday, Piastri is confident in his championship lead following two disappointing results at the 2025 Austin Grand Prix.
“Everyone loves a good underdog story or trying to come back is sometimes a bit easier but I’d rather have the championship lead as it means you are doing something rights”
When asked about his approach to the remaining five races, Piastri assures reporters his approach stays the same. The Australian, who has held the championship lead since April says his focus is on “getting the most out of every weekend”
Piastri’s full attention is on this weekend, saying his plan going into the Mexican Grand Prix is to “try to go as fast as possible, qualify as high as I can and race as well as I can”
Can Verstappen claim his fifth title
When asked about his championship rival, Max Vertsappen, Piastri says he was surprised that Max “had come into the fight quicker than expected”
Alongside Piastri in the press conference, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda said he has “potential to contribute to second place in the Constructor’s Championship and to help Max win [the WDC]”

Antonelli and Sainz believe Verstappen has nothing to loose. The Mercedes driver saying that Red Bull has “improved the car and Verstappen is in a better position”
Sainz has said it is up to Verstappen. “He cannot have a bad race, as then it is back to the McLaren’s alone”
Hulkenburg continued the previous statements, admitting “you can never write him [Vertsappen] off.” However, he believes it is up to McLaren and how they perform on track.
Repercussions Removed
Piastri also revealed that the repercussions placed on his teammate Lando Norris, have been removed following the Austin Grand Prix.
Following Singapore, Norris revealed he would be facing repercussions after his overtake on Piastri. However, the collision during the Austin Sprint Race has left the two drivers on equal footing.
Piastri stated that the rules are now clear to the McLaren duo. The drivers have been told “Don’t crash into each other, regardless of the situation”
