It was Brazilian MP Motorsport driver winning both races this weekend, showcasing a master class in racing this weekend in both the sprint and feature race. Having started in P10 on the track saw a good start off the line, and tyre management holding out the soft tyres until the last minute played a key role catching up to the leader Jack Doohan and overtaking towards the last few laps of the race to win.
Our pole sitter Jack Doohan did everything he could to defend and race but with tyres 5 laps older than Drugovich he would have to settle for P2 for his first podium in the F2 2022 season coming into next weekend in Monaco.
Frederik Vesti having a bit of a head down race was able to take third but was really far behind the top 2 positions coming across the checkered line.
Logan Sargent was just able to hold off MP Motorsport driver Clement Novalack whom like this teammate provided a masterclass in racing moving from p12 on the grid to 5th in the end. with some amazing wheel to wheel battles and overtaking with ease.
Enzo Fittipaldi providing some great overtakes of his own was able to finish P6, followed by Marcus Armstrong whom like Enzo completed their mandatory pit stop later on in the race. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 were Theo Pourchaire, Liam Lawson and Roy Nissany.

One DNF came from Prema racing driver and red bull junior driver Jehan Daruvala whom was defending hard against another Red Bull Junior driver of DAMS team Ayumu Iwasa. That defense ended on lap 3 when the Indian driver came to a halt on the circuit, and Iwasa couldn’t avoid him in time and clipped his front wing. He was in at the end of the lap for a new
nosecone as the Safety Car was deployed to recover Daruvala’s stranded PREMA Racing car.
But out in front though, Drugovich was in cruise control, extending the gap to Doohan and leaving the rest well behind. He extended his Championship advantage with the win but an investigation into whether his pit stop procedure was fully compliant with the regulations hangs over his victory. At the time of writing now penalty would be given however if a 5 second penalty would be given Drugovich was able to extend his lead in the last couple laps to surpass 5 seconds over Jack Doohan.
So where does this leave the Championship?
Drugovich’s dominance in Barcelona has helped him into a 26-point lead in the F2 Drivers’ Championship. Pourchaire remains second on 60 points with Daruvala narrowly ahead of Lawson and Armstrong, who moves himself up into the top five.
MP Motorsport made the tyres work for them and extended their points tally at the top of the Teams’ Standings to 108 points. It was a double score for ART who remained second with 85, while Carlin sit in third with 73 points.
Formula 2 is back next week for the Monaco Grand prix! Who will take the pole? Who has what it takes on the streets to Monaco to secure the win in the sprint and feature race?
