Alpha Tauri driver, Daniel Ricciardo will miss the Dutch Grand Prix after damaging his wrist in the Friday Practice.
The Australian driver was caught up in an incident with compatriot, Oscar Piastri as the drivers acclimatised to the track in FP2.
Piastri crashed his McLaren at the banked Turn 3 and Ricciardo had too little time to react.
He collided with the barriers after taking avoiding action.
The 34-year-old was understandably shaken up after the incident complaining on the team radio about wrist pain.
Speaking to Motorsport.com Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said:
“He’s broken something in his hand, so he won’t race,”
“Lawson will drive. It’s difficult for him. It’s a shame because the car is good here.”
Lawson currently sits second in Japan’s Super Formula championship with three wins.
It will be the New Zealanders first experience of a 2023 F1 car. He’ll be thrown into the deep end on Saturday morning in FP3.
The Red Bull junior, who was a reserve driver for the team at Zandvoort, was in the running to join Alpha Tauri.
However, Ricciardo’s impressive Silverstone testing times that turned it in his favour.
The Aussie will be keen to get back into the drivers seat as soon as possilbe as he pushes for a Red Bull seat in the future.
