Cancel The Pitstop Boys

Is it time to cancel the Pitstop boys?

The Pitstop boys are giving Formula 1 fans a bad rep.

Jake Boys and Fabio Bocca, hosts of the Pitstop Podcast have faced backlash after their recent appearance on the Screaming Meals podcast. Which can only be described as disrespectful and naïve.

The wine was flowing excessively during this podcast episode. So that certainly didn’t help.

Lose lips sink ships as they say.

But if this was the final edit. I hate to think what didn’t make the cut!

It’s All About The Money Money Money

Fans and creators will never know everything. I for one couldn’t recall all the F1 world champions or tell you how long every track is. But lack of knowledge is no excuse for pure disrespect.

Drive to Survive has given birth to a host of new fans. Some are now super fans, whilst others have simply tapped into the growing Formula 1 market, in order to profit.

Falling into this category are the Pitstop boys.

They are no die hard F1 fans, that’s no secret. But after their appearance on the Screaming Meals podcast it is clear that they simply want to travel, earn a load of cash and see what free stuff they can get.

And did I mention they don’t really care about racing…

The Pitstop podcast, which involves interviewing F1 personalities, drivers and crew, has been a big hit in the last year, allowing Boys and Bocca to quit their day jobs, travel the world and be given opportunities many of us could only dream of. Despite having very little knowledge of the sport.

But will their success take a hit after too much wine and a disrespectful podcast episode?

“No One Gives A F*** About Your Racing”

The duo was joined by F2 star Juan Manuel Correa, who survived a life threatening crash in 2019.

Correa sustained massive injuries to his legs and spine in the collision, which cruelly took the life of fellow F2 racer Anthoine Hubert. The 23-year-old was lucky to walk again, let alone return to full-time racing in 2021.

A snippet of the recent talk has gone viral with Fabio claiming, “No one gives a f*** about your racing, no one really cares about where you finish in the championship.”

Because that makes sense.

That’s why fans pay crazy prices to go sit trackside?

That’s why creators spend hours and hours researching?

That’s why Drive to Survive led to 3 American races on the calendar?

Fabio went on to claim that fans were only interested in the personal lives of the drivers and the behind the scenes.

Don’t get me wrong, many of us loved the drama of Drive to Survive. But we wouldn’t spend hours watching the races if we didn’t enjoy it.

Just Google It

Not only did the Pitstop boys make outrageous comments about fans, but to not know who Correa was, or what the hosts do, is purely naïve.

If you host a motorsport podcast, please try to educate yourself.

The Formula 1 community is incredible, but a small few are giving creators a bad rep.

It costs nothing to do a google search. 5 minutes of research would have gone a long way.

Women Could Never

As a female Formula 1 fan, I’m constantly grilled about my knowledge or told I only like F1 for the ‘hot drivers’. Which means I constantly have to prove myself.

Why?

Because some men think I can’t be a real fan, based on gender.

Women constantly have to prove themselves…

And now the Pitstop boys are being given a platform that continues to push this narrative.

Their throw about comments have consequences and their naivety is continuing to make things difficult for female fans.

Why don’t we ask the Pitstop boys who the hottest driver is…

Because the driving doesn’t matter, right?

Why have we given these men a platform, when they are doing more harm than good?

These men are given incredible opportunities, yet if a woman didn’t know about F1 and made disrespectful comments she’d receive huge backlash rather than continue to be rewarded.

These men refuse to learn abut the sport. That’s the niche. But has their ‘niche’ lost its charm?

Their hot takes have become far from hot.

So is it time to cancel the Pitstop boys?
