BTCC | Donington Park GP 2025 | Cammish survives late chaos to win Race Two

Admin Avatar

Dan Cammish took career win number 15 on his 200th start in a chaotic race two at Donington Park. Cammish led from lap six and survived a late rain shower at Mcleans which caught the whole field out.

First lap chaos at Mcleans

As the lights went out, the Hyundai’s both got away well on their hard tyres. Sutton also got away well and positioned himself right behind Ingram ready to challange. But there was drama on the run into Mcleans as Senna Proctor dipped a wheel onto the grass and sent him spinning. Sam Osbourne also spun right behind him but Proctor collected Aiden Moffat which sent the trio into the gravel. The Safety Car was called out to clear the cars out the gravel.

Restart Drama

Chilton led the safety car restart from his teammate Ingram with Sutton on the medium tyre lurking right behind them. Ingram looked to get the best of the starts as he challanged Chilton down into Redgate. Sutton was sent sideways behind the pair after he was given a nudge by Dan Rowbottom. This sent Sutton tumbling down the order while Ingram made off with the lead of the race. Sutton got into another incident just a few corners later. He tried a pass on Aron Taylor-Smith at the old hairpin which was both of them run onto the gravel on the outside. He was relegated down to 13th place on lap 5 with a lot of work to do.

Ingram holds his own on the hard tyre

Ingram quickly lost his lead on lap six of the race to Cammish and then losing second to Adam Morgan just a lap later. But, Ingram managed to maintain third place for the majority of the race. It was only when he encoutered the shower at Mclean’s that he dropped down into fourth position.

Rain arrived late in the race

The heavens opened on lap 15 at Mcleans corner which saw the majority of the field sliding off into the gravel. The downpour came with little to no warning for the drivers. A safety car was called out quickly after most of the drivers managed to get back onto the track. However, positions were chopping and changing as some drivers recovered quicker than others.

The rain didnt stop Dan Cammish though as he managed to keep a firm hold on his first position. Adam Morgan ended up in second place, his fourth of the season so far. Gordon Shedden coped with the conditions the best and managed to climb a number of places to cross the line in third position.

Toyota Impress once again

The Toyota squad had another impressive race at Donington Park. Shedden managed to secure a second podium finish of the season as he benefited from the late chaos. The returning Josh Cook claimed an impressive sixth place, moving up 12 positions at the flag. He was followed behind by Aron Taylor-Smith in seventh who also had the fastest lap of the race.

The reverse grid draw saw the number eight ball pulled out which puts Ash Sutton on pole position for race three of the weekend at Donington. He benefited from Chris Smiley’s disqualification due to ride height infridgements. Sutton origionally finished in ninth place, one spot outside of the reverse grid but the disqualification bumps him up to eight and reverse grid pole. Smiley was the top independant driver but now ends up with no points. The majority of the field will be on the hard compound tyres unless the race is rain effected. Ingram will have the medium tyres to use which puts him in a great position to battle with his title rival.
