Paul Aron has been handed not one, but two penalties after the 2024 F2 Hungarian GP Weekend.
The weekend was far from ideal for the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver anyway following a P6 finish in the Sprint and a retirement from the Feature race. However, it has gone from bad to worse for the Estonian driver, and his chances of winning the Championship have been further dashed.
Aron has been handed two five-place grid penalties for two separate incidents during the Feature race. The first was dealt for forcing PREMA’s Oliver Bearman off-track – the Stewards determined that Aron did not leave enough space for Bearman at Turn 4 on the opening lap, forcing the Brit off the circuit.
The second five-place penalty comes after the race-ending incident with Maloney. The collision not only left Aron without points, but also severely hindered Maloney’s Championship fight as the retirement dropped him two places down the leaderboard. The Stewards determined Aron to have caused the collision and as a result, dealt him a ten-second penalty. However, since the Hitech Pulse-Eight failed to finish the race, the penalty was converted into a second five-place grid penalty.
As a result of a chaotic end to the 2024 F2 Hungarian GP weekend, Aron will now serve a ten-place grid penalty next week in Spa.
