APPLE CONFIRM NEW F1 FILM STARRING BRAD PITT

Apple studios have announced it has acquired the rights to a Formula 1 film starring Brad Bitt and will be produced by Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton.

The film’s screenplay is being written by Ehren Kruger with Joseph Kosinski taking on the role of director.

The pair worked together on the surprisingly successful sequel, Top Gun: Maverick and will hope to continue their fine dynamic with this latest effort.

Brad Pitt is of course coming up to 60 years-old so it remains to be seen whether they can use his acting ability to benefit the film without it becoming unrealistic.

Pitt plays the part of an older driver who comes out of retirement to join a rookie team mate and take on the series’ top competitors.

We don’t yet know if Hamilton will feature on-screen or just provide some industry knowledge although the Brit does have a Hollywood history with cameo appearances and voice acting in films such as Cars 2, Cars 3 and Zoolander 2.

The new Apple Original Films project will be his first full production credit.

It could also signal a further shift into other areas of interest for the Brit as he reaches the twilight of his F1 career following a so-far underwhelming campaign for Mercedes in 2022.

Brad Pitt has also shown a keen interest for motorsport in the past meaning we should expect a performance from someone who knows the intricacies of the sport.

He previously waved the start flag at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. His name also featured in the production of Matt Damon-fronted Ford vs Ferrari (aka Le Mans ’66) after he worked for several years on a biopic about Le Mans racer and engineer, Carol Shelby.

Fans of the sport will hope it can follow in the footsteps of the hugely successful film Rush that chronicles the battle for the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship between Niki Lauda and eventual winner, James Hunt.
