Speaking at the Spanish Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso shared that he believes the Adrian Newey to Aston Martin ‘rumours are rumours.’

British newspaper The Times recently reported that Adrian Newey has had conversations with owner Lance Stroll to join the team from 2025.
The Red Bull chief technical officer has reportedly had an exclusive tour of the Aston Martin headquarters at Silverstone. This comes after the Brit announced his resignation from Red Bull after 18 years of service at the Austrian team.
Speaking to the media at the Spanish Grand Prix, Alonso refused to confirm or deny the news, stating “rumours are rumours.”
“There are many questions on that,” he shared.
“I read the rumours, I read the news, but it’s coming from the same source and the same websites of one week ago that he was in Ferrari and the announcement was at 12 o’clock before the Canada race.
“Rumours are rumours.”
Journalists then pressed Alonso on what he could do to try and convince Newey to join Aston Martin.
Revealing nothing to rivals, the Spanish driver said, “That keeps between him and me.”
Aston Martin allegedly face competition from Ferrari and Williams who each have a keen interest in the designer. However, the move to Italy may prevent Newey from working with Hamilton, something he has previously considered.
What Newey could offer any team on the grid is paramount to their success post-regulations change in 2026.
While Alonso believes the Newey rumours are just rumours, does Lance Stroll agree? It would be a signing that could provide them with the wins they are looking for.
