Niels Koolen will replace Taylor Barnard at AIX Racing for the next two FIA Formula 2 rounds in Baku and Monza.
The 23-year-old Dutch driver currently competes in Indy NXT, driving for HMD Motorsports. He currently stands 20th in the standings, with a best finish of tenth position.
“I am very happy with the opportunity from AIX Racing to participate in Formula 2 in Monza and Baku,” said Niels Koolen.
“A few years ago I had the dream to get into Formula racing. Since then I have been training constantly to prepare myself for this step. I want to thank all the people who supported me in this journey and look forward to my first Formula 2 race.”
Barnard’s Departure
It was announced that Barnard will be racing with NEOM McLaren in the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which begins on 7 December 2024.
The British driver confirmed that he would be parting ways with AIX Racing, effective immediately.
“I’d like to thank the team for all the support they have given me in my time within PHM/AIX fold and I wish them all the best for the future,” said Barnard.
