The partnership continues

Details about Lewis Hamilton’s next Mercedes contract have emerged and its positive news for LH44 fans.

The Brit will make €45 million in 2023, along with a €25 million bonus, if he takes the World Drivers Championship.

Red Bull comfortably beat the German outfit in both championships in what was a difficult season for the team.

It raised questions about whether Hamilton – the second oldest driver on the grid – had the desire to carry on in the sport.

George Russell also put him under significant pressure capping a fantastic first season by taking victory in Brazil. The teams only win of the season.

Hamilton meanwhile ended 2022 without a win. The first time he failed to take the chequered flag first in his career.

Despite a late-season resurgence, Russell finished ahead of his illustrious teammate in the tantalising season-long battle between the pair.

Something which we will get to enjoy for a few seasons more after this news.

The seven time champion will make a further €140M, bonuses excluded, racing in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

Ambassadorial ambitions

Hamilton also has his sights set on life after racing with rumours of an ambassadorial role when he hangs up the gloves.

His working relationship with team boss, Toto Wolff has always been very strong. It now looks like both parties want that to continue for the foreseeable future.

The Mercedes-Benz Group hope to retain the Brit on a 10-year contract. He will undertake various promotional duties for the team, pocketing a further €25 million per year for this deal.

Hamilton is set to make over €400 million from his exploits with Mercedes as his racing career winds down.

His contract will make him one of the highest paid drivers in the sport only rivalled by Max Verstappen.

We would expect this to be Hamilton’s last bumper contract in the sport taking him up to his 40th birthday. However, there has been no sign of his talent degrading as he goes in search of a record eighth title.
