Charles Leclerc, Ferrari F1 driver, has faith in Ferrari as they prepare for the former Formula 1 Ferrari Team Principle Matteo Binotto’s successor to step into this role.
Ferrari faced a challenging year with major strategy mistakes to broken records and it’s safe to say that none of us could have predicted Ferrari’s season. For many fans, teams and drivers, it looked as though Ferrari were going to be on top at the start of the 2022 season. But obviously, in F1, not everything can be straight forward.
Leclerc praised Binotto’s admiration for him at the FIA Gala where he stated: “he believed in me right from the very start, and [gave me] a very long contract” and further said that he was “inside the Scuderia for many years, contributing to the success the team had in the past years.”
There has been rumours over who’s in the running for Ferraris new team principle and Leclerc was the first to say that this big decision is “obviously not my decision” and that “we are trying to focus our job on the simulator to have the best race car for next year”.
A clear speculation is that current Alpha Romeo boss Frederic Vasseur is the favourite for this important role, and many believe he could strive this team in the right direction. He would be considered a good choice, having worked previously with the young Monegasque, Charles Leclerc in his rookie season at Sauber, he may just be the right candidate. This is still all speculation and we look forward to the Ferrari team announcing their new Team Principle.
Charles Leclerc further stated at the FIA Gala; “Obviously the last few weeks have been a bit difficult for the team and we are in a transition time at the moment,”
“But on that I have the full trust on Benedetto and John to take the right decision, but I am sure that 2023 will be another step forward and hopefully get closer to the goal we all want in the team which is to be world champion.”
Leclerc also addressed the rumours of Frederic Vasseur taking on the role but the Ferrari Team are still playing their cards close to their chests.
“I mean Ferrari is a very different team to any other team,”
“I can only comment on my experience with Fred, which has obviously been good.
“I worked with him in junior categories where he has believed in me and we’ve always had a good relationship but apart from that obviously that shouldn’t influence any of the decisions.
“He has always been straightforward and honest, this is something I like from Fred, but whether it will be him or not I don’t know.”
