Although McLaren’s agreement with Piastri has long been signed, it was believed that McLaren’s new recruit would not be available until the end of the season.
France’s Auto Hedbo has reported that Oscar Piastri was with McLaren for a private two day test at the Paul Ricard Circuit. The report continues that the Australian was wearing McLaren overalls that had the sponsors covered. The two day test utilized the shorter 3.8km on Wednesday, then the full Grand Prix circuit on the following day.
Neither Alpine or McLaren have confirmed the test or Piastri’s status. No images of the test have appeared online.
McLaren have agreed to run Pato O’Ward in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi after Alex Palou ran at the USGP at COTA.
If Oscar Piastri has been released from his obligations with Alpine, he could make a testing appearance for McLaren before the end of the season.
