Alpha Tauri driver, Pierre Gasly is on the verge of triggering a race ban after taking another penalty point at the Mexican GP
Gasly could be the first driver to be banned under the penalty points system since it’s introduction in 2014.
Under the system drivers are allowed to accrue 12 penalty points over a 12 month period before the ban comes into effect. Gasly finds himself in a precarious position with 10 points on his licence after taking 5 in October alone.
A list of the Frenchman’s infractions:
- Spain: Collision with Stroll – 2 points
- Austria: Collision with Vettel – 2 points
- Austria: Leaving the track without a justifiable reason multiple times – 1 point
- Japan: Speeding under red flag conditions – 2 points
- United States: Falling more than 10 car lengths behind the Safety Car – 2 points
- Mexico: Going off track and gaining an advantage – 1 point
Due to the system running over a 12 month period, Pierre Gasly will not see a reduction in his penalty points until 23rd May 2023, which means he will have to keep his nose clean until after round seven of the 2023 season.
