FERNANDO ALONSO HANDED 30 SECOND TIME PENALTY AFTER HAAS PROTEST

It seems that all of Fernando Alonso’s hard work during the race has been taken away from him.

While racing in the US Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas, Fernando Alonso had a shunt with Lance Stroll, sending his Alpine car airborne and damaging it in the process.

Alonso was able to get back to the pits and have his nose replaced and regain the race, however after his incident his wing mirror was damaged. On lap 47 the wing mirror fell off while overtaking HAAS driver Kevin Magnussen. This is what Fernando is being penalised for.

The HAAS team protested soon after the race, because they have had several instances of similar types of damage this year where they have been shown the Black and Orange flag and had their race ruined.

The stewards agree with HAAS in this instance. They have given Fernando Alonso a 30 second penalty, which is the equivalent post race penalty, to an in race 10 second stop-go.

This sends Fernando Alonso back down to P15, thus promoting Sebastian Vettel up to 7th, Kevin Magnussen up to 8th and Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon promoted to 9th and 10th respectively.

Alpine F1 team are planning to appeal the decision. Is this another incorrect decision by the FIA stewards?
