The promoters for the Singapore GP has confirmed that the track will undergo some changes for the 2023 season.
The Singapore GP has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 2008, during that time it have had some minor alterations, however none as extensive as those for the 2023 event.

The infamous area of the track where Nelson Piquet Jr crashed on purpose to allow Fernando Alonso to win in 2008 will be replaced.
The reason behind the changes are due to building work on the Float area of the Marina into a new entertainment area, meaning that corners 16 to 19 will not be usable in 2023. The proposed works are set to begin in March next year and won’t be completed intime for the race.

The changes are to incorporate a 379.3 meter straight that will miss out the entire section ending at the new tight turn 16, potentially reducing the lap time by up to 20 seconds from 1minute 49 seconds to a possible 1minute 27seconds.
It is anticipated that the track will revert to the previous layout for the 2024 event.
