The FIA were due to announce their findings on the 2021 Cost Cap review today, however they have announced that this will now be delayed to 10th October.
With the introduction of the Cost Cap, all Formula 1 teams are required to submit financial reports to the FIA for analysis. The teams that are found to be compliant are then certified, with any team found to be in breach subject to sanctions, ranging from public reprimand to exclusion from parts of the race weekend. Other sanctions could include points deductions, financial penalties (including reduced cost cap for 2023) and reduction of wind tunnel allowance.
The Formula 1 paddock has been speculating that at least 2 teams have fell foul of the cost cap, with Redbull and Aston Martin being the teams involved. Redbull team principal, Christian Horner has been on the defensive over the Singapore weekend, labeling the reports “totally unacceptable” and “hugely defamatory.”

Aston Martin’s team principle, Mike Krack has taken a more pragmatic stance, stating “we don’t think we have done anything majorly wrong”
It will be an anxious wait for the teams involved. The FIA needs to get this right as it could make or break the Cost Cap system before it’s had a chance to kick in.
