FIA CONFIRMS F1 WILL HOLD SIX SPRINTS EVENTS FROM 2023

The FIA has announced that the F1 calender will hold six sprint events over the course of the season from 2023.

The sprint qualifying has been part of the Formula 1 qualifying since 2021. Where teams compete in a 100km “race” to determine the grid order for the Grand Prix on Sunday. This season points are awarded on a sliding scale from 1st to 8th place.

Six for the Sprint in 2023

The FIA tried to increase the amount of sprint events for the 2022 season, however several F1 teams were concerned with the potential of damage and the increased strain on the cost cap.

Interestingly, the agreement was reached in April, but the announcement was delayed by the FIA as they wanted time to assess the impact the extra workload would have on their staff. I wonder if the FIA assessed the workload for all staff working within F1 regarding the ‘record breaking’ 24 race calender for 2023.
