REDBULL SET TO SWOOP FOR NYCK DE VRIES

After a phenomenal debut at the Italian GP, it looks certain that the former Formula E and Formula 2 champion will be on the grid in 2023, the question was who for.

Well, it would seem that Helmut Marko and Redbull have been alerted to the talented Dutch driver.

Redbull Racing are on the lookout for a replacement for the (potential) departure of Pierre Gasly to Alpine. With attempts to shoehorn Colton Herta into Formula 1 without the required super licence points failing, Redbull have turned their attention to Nyck De Vries.

Nyck De Vries is all smiles after an amazing weekend.

With the FIA unwilling the bend the rules to allow Colton Herta to race in Formula 1, Pierre Gasly’s move to Alpine was on shaky ground as Redbull were unable to find a suitable replacement.

Up steps Nyck de Vries…

Nyck De Vries was thrown into his Formula 1 racing debut after Alex Albon was diagnosed with appendicitis. The former Formula E driver would complete an FP3 session and then out qualify his teammate Nicholas Latifi in qualifying. His race was just as good, crossing the line in ninth place.

An impressive performance that gained him plaudits from every corner of the Formula 1 paddock.

With De Vries’s Mercedes contract ending at the end of the 2022 season, he is in effect a free agent.

Reports are suggesting that Redbull have swooped for De Vries’s services at Alpha Tauri.

If the move is confirmed it will be an interesting but understandable mover for both De Vries and Redbull.
