Raúl Fernández delivered a flawless performance at Silverstone to take his first Grand Prix victory of the 2026 season. Starting second, the Trackhouse rider immediately seized the lead, controlling the race from the opening corner to the chequered flag.
Behind him, Jorge Martín and Marco Bezzecchi completed an all-Aprilia podium, giving the manufacturer another remarkable result after Saturday’s Sprint 1-2-3. The result also strengthened Martín’s position at the top of the championship. But a costly crash for Ai Ogura and a difficult race for Marc Márquez changed the title picture once again.
Fernández Makes the Perfect Start
Fernández launched brilliantly from P2, taking the lead from Bezzecchi through Turn 1. Pole-sitter Martín became involved in an early battle with teammate Ogura, allowing Marc Márquez to move into third by the exit of Turn 4.
While the riders behind fought for position, Fernández immediately began pulling away. The Spaniard’s pace was simply too strong for the chasing Aprilia riders to match.
Drama Erupts Behind the Leader
The fight for podium remained closer, with several riders involved in battles throughout the opening half. Álex Márquez climbed to fifth and began closing in on his brother, while Pedro Acosta remained in contention behind him. A series of crashes then shook up the order.
Enea Bastianini was the first to fall, crashing at Turn 17, before Iker Lecuona and Cal Crutchlow also suffered incidents at Turns 12 and 6 respectively. Pecco Bagnaia’s race ended on lap eight when he crashed at Turn 7, the same corner where he had fallen the previous year.
Ogura’s Championship Hopes Take a Hit
The biggest championship storyline came on lap nine. Martín moved ahead of Bezzecchi to take second, while Álex briefly climbed into third.
But disaster struck for Ogura, who crashed at Turn 16 and was forced to retire. The mistake was particularly costly for him, as he has arguably been Martín’s closest challenger in the championship. With that, Martín was handed a major opportunity to extend his advantage.
Álex also suffered a setback shortly afterwards, running wide at Turn 1 and dropping to fifth before recovering a position.
Fernández Remains Untouchable
With five laps remaining, Fernández held an advantage of more than four seconds over Martín and Bezzecchi. Martín gradually reduced the gap in the closing stages, but there was never a realistic opportunity to challenge for the win.
The pressure was instead building behind them, where Di Giannantonio was making a late charge. The VR46 rider eventually caught Marc and made his move at Turn 3 with three laps remaining, pushing the reigning world champion down the order.
Fernández crossed the line 2.5 seconds clear of Martín to claim his first Grand Prix victory of the season and his second MotoGP race win overall. The victory was particularly satisfying after his Sprint disappointment on Saturday. It continued an extraordinary trend at Silverstone: Fernández became the 12th different winner of the last 12 British Grands Prix.
Martín strengthens his championship advantage
Martín’s finish extended his lead over teammate Bezzecchi to 31 points, while Marc now sits 40 points behind Martín after his seventh-place finish.
Ogura’s crash was equally important. The Japanese rider failed to score after entering the race as one of Martín’s closest title challengers, giving the Aprilia rider another opportunity to build a cushion.
With three Aprilias occupying the top three positions and Martín firmly in control of the championship, the Silverstone weekend has once again demonstrated how strong Aprilia’s package has become.
Ten rounds remain, but after a dramatic British Grand Prix, Martín has once again emerged as the rider with the advantage.
