The stage is set for the final qualifying session before Formula 1 heads into the summer break. After three practice sessions, the fight for pole position looks wide open.
Ferrari made the early statement on Friday, with Charles Leclerc topping FP1 before Lewis Hamilton led a Ferrari one-two in FP2. However, Saturday morning belonged to McLaren, as Lando Norris edged Lewis Hamilton and championship leader Kimi Antonelli in a tightly contested FP3, setting up what promises to be one of the closest qualifying sessions of the season.
Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes have all shown genuine pace. Red Bull remain firmly in the fight despite keeping plenty in reserve throughout practice. Behind them, the midfield battle also looks incredibly close, with every tenth likely to matter around the Hungaroring.
Track position has always been crucial in Budapest. Overtaking opportunities limited, and a strong qualifying result can often define a driver’s weekend. With the margins at the front separated by little more than a tenth throughout practice, expect every lap in Q1, Q2 and Q3 to count.
