Kush Maini will line up on Pole position for the second time this season, following F2 Qualifying at the 2026 Hungarian GP.
As the green light shone, the drivers began making their way out onto the track for the 30-minute qualifying session.
As the final race before the summer break, the field were hoping to successfully set themselves up for the weekend ahead.
First Flying Laps
The majority of the field completed an exploratory lap, completing just one round of the circuit before returning to the pit.
Joshua Durksen was the first driver to start a flying lap, yet lost grip into the final corner, a mistake that he also made during this morning’s Practice session.
Championship-leader Nikola Tsolov topped the timings with a 1:29.601, with Gabriele Mini hot on his heels with a 1:29.794.
Martinius Stenshore completed the top three with a 1:29.797 for Hitech.
Durksen decided to attempt a dual-lap run. Despite being down on his previous time in Sectors One and Two, a green Sector Three saw him slot into seventh, with a 1:30.233 for Invicta Racing. He was quickly replaced by Alex Dunne.
Camara’s Hunt for Pole
Noel Leon was the next driver to occupy the top spot, with a 1:29.486 for Campos. However, Rafael Camara was in the hunt for his third consecutive Pole position, replacing him with a 1:29.380.
Kush Maini slotted into third for ART Grand Prix.
Going even quicker, Camara bettered his Pole lap to a 1:29.323, extending his lead by one and a half tenths.
Seven Minutes Remaining
With seven minutes remaining, Tsolov completed his final flying lap, taking Pole with a 1:29.313.
However, Invicta were able to continue their good run of form, with Durksen replacing him with a 1:29.106.
Remarkably, Maini was able to better them both, snatching Pole with a 1:28.896.
Tasanapol Inthrpuvasak slotted into third with a 1:29.207, looking to capitalise after his maiden podium last weekend.
For DAMS Lucas Oil, Dino Beganovic headed to the line to take P6, after setting three personal-best sectors.
Yet, with just ten seconds remaining, Leon momentarily secured a front row start, slotting into second with a 1:29.091. However, Camara quickly stole this from him, bettering the Campos driver’s time by +0.1s
Results
Kush Maini celebrated his second Pole position of the season for ART Grand Prix following F2 Qualifying. He beat Rafael Camara by just 0.117s, who will line up alongside the Indian driver in Sunday’s Feature Race. Noel Leon completes the top three.
Formula 2 will return tomorrow for the Sprint Race at 14:15 local time.
