SAINZ STORMS TO RAIN SODDEN SILVERSTONE POLE

It has taken 150 attempts, but Carlos Sainz has done it. He has taken his maiden pole position in Formula One in spectacular fashion at a sodden silverstone circuit.

The Spaniard starts ahead of his former team,ate and incumbent world champion Max Verstappen. The Dutchman looked on course for pole position, however could not get the final lap together when it mattered.

Starting P3 is Charles Leclerc, who will be hoping for a better run of luck this weekend with reliability. He starts ahead of Red Bull defence minister Sergio Perez.

The third row of the grid sees an all Nritish affair, with home hero Lewis Hamilton starts with P5 and the young McLaren driver London Norris qualifying a very impressive P6.

P7 is Alpine of Fernando Alonso, and he starts ahead of other Mercedes driver George Russell. He starts ahead of the Alfa Romeo of Zhou Guanyu and the Williams of Nicholas Latifi in P10.

Q2 saw a double exit for Alfa Tauri. Pierre Gasly qualified P11 and 0.4 seconds of the pace, whilst Yuki Tsunoda qualified P13 and one second off the pace needed for Q3. They were sandwiched by the flying Finn Valtteri Bottas, who qualified in P 12 and 0.9 seconds off the pace.

Q2 also saw yes another exit for Daniel Ricciardo, who could not get a lot together that was fast enough for Q3. He starts P14 in tomorrow’s race, ahead of Esteban Ocon who is P15 in the Alpine.

The start of qualifying saw the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher qualifier a distant P17 and P19 respectively. Just ahead of them is the Williams of Alexander Albon, who for the first time this season has been a qualified by his Canadian teammate Latifi.

Q1 also saw a double exit for the Aston Martin team in their home race. Sebastian Vettel will start the race from P 18 what is Canadian counterpart Lance Stroll brings up the rear of the grid in P20.
