MAX MASTERCLASS IN MONTREAL

Max Verstappen took another impressive victory for Red Bull as he continues to defend his world championship.

The Young Dutchman crossed the line ahead of his former Toro Rosso alumni Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard is still hunting for that elusive first win in Formula One. The two drivers engaged in an enthralling battle in the closing laps of the Grand Prix following a safety car period.

Making a welcome return to the podium is seven time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The Stevenage born driver has secured his first podium for Mercedes in 2022. The Brit followed up an impressive qualifying with a solid race and standing back on the podium once again.

Outside the podium places, George Russell continued his consistency with top five race finishes by bringing home the other Mercedes P4. He finished ahead of Monegasque Charles leClerc Who put in the spirit to drive from the back of the field following some engine penalties weekend.

Behind a Ferrari driver is the Alpine pairing of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard is believed to have had some power issues in the latter stages of the race and was unable to capitalise on his brilliant P2 in qualifying.

Running out of points is the Alfa Romeo duo of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guangu, Who both finished ahead of home hero Lance Stroll. The Canadian native put his P10 after a difficult qualifying session on Saturday.

Further down the field Daniel Ricciardo once again was unable to finish on the points as he brought home his McLaren a lowly P11. He finished alongside former Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel who pitted early in the race and was unable to capitalise on a long stint on the hard tyres.

The former Red Bull pairing finished ahead of another Red Bull alumni now in Albon. The British Thai driver brought home his Williams P13 and was engaged in various battles throughout the midfield. Just behind Albon is the alpha Tauri of Pierre Gasly Who endured a tough weekend with reliability issues starting in qualifying.

Running out the finishes we see Lando Norris a distant P15, and ahead of the other Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi. The final finish are classified is Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver endured a broken wing on lap one and was instructed to pit by a black and orange flag. This is before the two virtual safety car periods and effectively ruined his race.

The first of the nonclassified drivers is Yuki Tsunoda, who crashed as he left the pets on lap 47. He went straight onto the wall at T1 as his tires were too cold and he lost grip, bringing out the aforementioned safety car.

Elsewhere Sergio Pérez retired on lap seven with a suspected gearbox failure. As Checo was completing his seventh lap of the race he lost all drive and his gearbox was revving as if it was stuck in neutral.

Finally, Mick Schumacher retired on lap 18 as his house completely cut out on the approach to turn 7. It was a very bitter blow for the young driver as he was looking to capitalise on his best qualifying performance in F1 to date.
