Barcelona has already delivered one of the most revealing weekends of the season, with teams finally getting a clearer picture of where they stand after bringing major upgrades to one of Formula 1’s most demanding circuits.
Mercedes have looked strong throughout the weekend. George Russell topped both FP1 and FP3 before converting that pace into pole position on Saturday. By doing so, securing the tenth pole of his career and a perfect way to celebrate his 100th Grand Prix weekend with Mercedes. However, Lewis Hamilton split the Silver Arrows after a superb qualifying performance for Ferrari. While championship leader Kimi Antonelli was forced to settle for third — his lowest Grand Prix qualifying result of the season so far.
McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari all remain firmly in the fight after showing competitive pace across practice, while Charles Leclerc’s Q3 crash added another twist to an already dramatic qualifying session. With tyre degradation expected to play a major role and strategy likely to be just as important as outright pace, there is still plenty to play for heading into Sunday’s race.
