Van Amersfoort celebrated their first Monaco win following the F3 Sprint Race, after Yamakoshi lead the team to victory, from start to finish.
Hiyu Yamakoshi lined up on Pole for the F3 Sprint Race in Monaco. Gerrard Xie joined him on the front row, with Pedro Clerot in third.
Lights Out
It was a great launch for Yamakoshi, who confidently lead off the start.
Many ran wide at Turn 1, using the escape road to fight for position.
Red Flag
After huge contact at the hairpin between several cars, the Safety Car was released, before the red flag was waved.
Brando Badoer and Tukka Taponen were the first victims, with both drivers coming to a stop on track.
Christian Ho and Brad Benavides were also forced to retire following the contact.
In addition, James Wharton and Tito Kato filtered into the pitlane with damage, yet were able to continue.
Green Light
The race resumed with 22 minutes left on the clock.
Following the rolling start, Clerot let Bruno del Pino through into third, following instruction from his race engineer.
Once again, Yamakoshi confidently lead a much cleaner opening lap, with Xie in second.
Safety Car
After contact between Ernesto Rivera, Freddie Slater, and Sunday’s Polesitter Theophile Nael at the hairpin, the Safety Car was released once again.
Although all of the drivers were able to continue, Slater received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.
Green Light
The green light shone once again, with Polesitter Yamakoshi leading ahead of Xie and del Pino.
The Virtual Safety Car was briefly present to remove debris from the track, that had fallen from Slater’s front wing.
Six Minutes Remaining
The race resumed with six minutes remaining.
Yamakoshi pulled 1.7s ahead on Xie, who was now under pressure from del Pino, Clerot and Giusti.
At the same time, Rivera was forced to retire following the earlier contact.
The DAMS of Xie reeled Yamakoshi back in, whilst Clerot closed in on del Pino.
It was Van Amersfoort’s first Monaco win, after Yamakoshi lead the team to victory, from start to finish. Xie took second place for DAMS Lucas Oil, with del Pino securing the final podium position.
F3 continues tomorrow, with the Feature Race taking place at 7:45am local time.
